Beyond the ‘Glee’
Earlier today, I wrote about the Golden Globes nominations for 2010. It’s clear that my choice for Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical is Fox’s new show “Glee.” I’m curious to know other people’s choices, so check out the full list of nominees and leave your picks for this year’s Golden Globes in the comments section.
Although I love “Glee,” I don’t necessarily want it to win all four categories in which it was nominated. I have some pretty strong opinions about some of the other categories, too. And what is the Internet for, if not for posting opinions about the entertainment industry? I suppose the Internet is also for getting installment loans with no credit check, but we’ll focus on the former for now.
Small-screen central
Looking over the list of nominees for Best Television Series, Drama, I realize that I just don’t really like dramatic TV series. I guess I am a comedy lover through and through. I have seen at least a few episodes of all of the TV series that are nominated, but I never got into any of them. So, here’s where I need your help, people. Tell me which of the five nominees for Best Television Series, Drama, is your favorite so that when it comes time I can make good predictions and credit those predictions to you! Put down your favorites for best actor and actress, too.
The toughest category for me to make a decision about is Best Performance by an Actress in a comedy or musical. I am a longtime Tina Fey fan, plus “30 Rock” is one of my favorite shows of all time. However, “United States of Tara” is a brilliant, edgy show, and Toni Collette’s part takes some serious acting chops to pull off. So I am afraid I have to overlook my long-running favoritism for Tina Fey when it comes to everything ever and say I think Toni Colette should win for her “United States of Tara” performance. She plays five characters, for pete’s sake!
Now for the easy part
Luckily, I have an opportunity to show my love for “30 Rock” by stating definitively that Alec Baldwin should win for best actor in a comedy. I love Matthew Morrison’s portrayal of Will Schuster on “Glee,” and I have been a fan of “The Office,” and thus Steve Carell’s Michael Scott for about six years now.
However, no one makes me laugh the way Alec Baldwin does when he’s playing Jack Donaghy on “30 Rock.” On last week’s episode, he and Cerie were looking at an online social network called YouFace, Cerie informed him that an old high school crush had changed her relationship status “from working on it to weirdsies.” Jack, with his voice and his gray hair and his fancy suit said “O.M.F.G” in such a way that I thought I’d never stop laughing.
Quick picks
This article’s getting a tad long, so I’ll close by saying I think Neil Patrick Harris should win best supporting actor for “How I Met Your Mother,” and Jane Lynch should win best supporting actress in “Glee.” Haven’t seen enough feature films, miniseries or made-for-TV movies to make judgment calls on the rest of the nominations, so tell me your favorites!
