Brandon Marshall of the Dolphins gets in big trouble with big numbers

The talk of the NFL is the trade of Brandon Marshall. The superstar wide receiver, known as much for his arrest record as his pass catching talent, has been traded by the Denver Broncos to the Miami Dolphins. According to the NFL, the Dolphins gave Denver a second round pick in next week’s NFL draft within the Brandon Marshal trade, as well as a second round pick next year.

What Brandon Marshall learned in college

Brandon Marshall showed up in police reports beginning when he was at the University of Central Florida as a junior with misdemeanor charges of refusal to obey, assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. The charges were dismissed. While trying to return a set of stolen bed sheets, he was charged with retail theft. Those charges were also eventually dropped.

Brandon Marshall was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2006. Former Broncos wide receiver Javon Walker said contributed to a drive by shooting shortly after that killed Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams.

In January 2009, Brandon Marshall attracted police again following a fight with his father who has asked to borrow cash, in the parking lot of a bowling alley in Orlando, FL. Another report was filed after girlfriend Rasheedah Watley said Marshall had threatened her with a lead pipe in Marsh 2007. A few days later, Marshall was arrested for domestic violence and false imprisonment for assaulting Watley at Marshall’s home in Denver. After Marshall attended anger management classes, charges were dismissed.

Brandon Marshall apparently assaulted Watley again, according to police reports, in June 2007 when he allegedly cut her with a kitchen knife and punched her within the face. Marshall then rammed Watley’s friend’s auto with his Cadillac Escalade. No charges were filed, again. Just a little while later, the Atlanta police responded after Marshall missed a flight, Blamed Watley for it, and beat her up. Yet again, no charges were filed. The Atlanta police told Watley to get a restraining order.

Brandon Marshall is drinking and driving

In October 2007, Brandon Marshall got a DUI. Marshall was suspended for the first three regular season games of 2008 after more reports of violence with Watley being the on the receiving end. Marshall was eventually charged with two misdemeanor counts of simple battery for incidents in March 2007. He was given a year of probation after his DUI in September 2008.

Fiance being assaulted by Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall proposed to Michi Nogami-Campbell in February of 2009, making many sports writers praise Marshall’s “maturity.” Just a few months later, Marshall was arrested for assaulting his fiance in public in Atlanta. The charges were dismissed shortly after. The Broncos suspended Marshall for several games last season and he was benched for the final game.

Dolphins, good luck with Brandon Marshall

After all this, why did the Dolphins want a Brandon Marshall Trade? He will be instant money for them – with caveats. Marshall set an NFL record for receptions in a game with 21 in 2009, and he managed to catch more than 100 passes for the third straight year.
